Our Shed
Recycle, Renew, Regenerate!

Our Shed opened its doors to the Community in March 2010.  Set up as a Community Resource Centre, Our Shed is available for use by men and women from the Community as a place where they can create and connect with others in a relaxed atmosphere.

Our Shed offers a range of project based activities, opportunities for workshop participation, art space, men's health programs, our community garden and much more....

Our Shed has been described as ‘unique’ by many, particularly by those working in the disability sector. We however, feel that what we do, what we stand for, and how we operate are simple expressions of the mission statement of New Horizons Welfare Service in promoting and experiencing true community. Everyone equal. Everyone with purpose. Everyone welcome.

Some amazing spaces have been created at Our Shed, adding to the idea that there is really no single focus such as woodwork or metalwork.  Allowance is made for what happens at Our Shed to be in some way directed by those who come through the gate.  Our Shed Manager, Mark Polsen, believes that people don't access Our Shed to be 'told' what to do, but can share or be taught skills if they need or choose to do so.

Re.generate - ‘Great Products, Building Community and Caring for the Environment’

Regenerate_Logo

Established in 2010, Re.generate is a social enterprise of Our Shed which predominantly involves producing and selling bags of kindling from used wooden pallets.  Re.generate also extends to producing small furniture items, drums and camping packs.

Re.Generate was established to produce quality and value for money products, the production and sale of which have a positive community and environmental impact.  Re.Generate is committed to develop sufficient income through sales activities that not only covers the operational costs of Our Shed, but that also generates surplus income to be directed towards expanding Our Shed’s current services (community workshops, food relief etc) and opportunity-base (relationship building, linkage to services, work experience) for the community. During the first 5 years we will gain a solid reputation in the market-place as a community building and environmentally friendly enterprise marketing great products.

From a community point of view, Re.generate engages it's participants, enhances relationships and gives participants a sense of belonging and self worth.  For the environment, what would normally be waste material is re-used and turned into useful, saleable products, reducing landfill and the risk of other hazards such as fire.
